Nigeria lost N2.1 trillion to oil vandalism in 10 months – Baru


The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation,
NNPC, said from January 2016 till date,
government lost $7bn, about N2.1tn, to the
activities of militancy groups and oil pipeline
vandals in the Niger Delta region.
The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr
Maikanti Baru, said this on Friday in Abuja at the
2016 Fiscal Liquidity Assessment Committee
Retreat.
Baru made a presentation on “Global Oil Prices,
Militancy and Terrorism and its Impact on
Government Revenue in Nigeria’’.
He said that apart from security challenges in the
region, politics, judiciary, oil prices and production
cost continued to impact negatively on the oil
industry.
“Over 7000kpd of crude oil has been lost due to
vandalism this year. A bulk of the loss is from JV
assets.
“This implies that 60 per cent of oil production lost
is NNPC-FGN equity.
“At an estimated price of 45 dollars per barrel,
the total 2016 revenue loss to the Federation
Account translates to about 7 billion dollars.

Everton indicate interest in signing Rooney


Everton football club have indicated interest in
signing back out-of-favour Manchester United and
England captain, Wayne Rooney.
Everton manager, Ronald Koeman described the
striker as a “great player” and would welcome the
chance to bring him back to Goodison Park, his
boyhood club.
Rooney is struggling at Manchester United with
reports suggesting he has been told by manager,
Jose Mourinho that he can leave Old Trafford.
Although the England captain has been linked with
a move to MLS side, Los Angeles Galaxy. Koeman
would grab the opportunity to bring him back to
Everton.
Speaking to the press ahead of Sunday’s game
against West Ham United, the Dutchman said,
“First of all, he’s a great player – he’s still not
finished his career.
“I don’t know what his situation is, I need to
respect his situation. That’s not my problem.
“Even if one time there is a possibility that
Rooney is an option for Everton, I’d say ‘yes,
please’.”
On Rooney’s struggles under Mourinho at United,
Koeman added, “That’s football. He is enough of
an experienced player and person that he knows
what can happen.
“Everyone gets periods of criticism. It’s part of
the business and you need to stay calm and that’s
the best thing you can do.”
Rooney began his football career at Everton and
scored a wonder goal against Arsenal at age 16.
He signed for the Old Trafford outfit in August
2004 and has been a regular for club and country
ever since, but has struggled for playing time
under Mourinho.
