1. Governor Godwin Obaseki’s election was Thursday upheld by the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, that sat in Benin on Friday. Justice Ahmed Badamosi dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, declaring that it lacked merit.
2. An aide to Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi, David Iyofor, Friday described former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode as a “mad man” in need of help for linking the Minister of Transport to the $43m the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, uncovered in a property in Ikoyi, Lagos State.
3. The immediate past Attorney General of the Federation, Mr. Mohammed Adoke (SAN), has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was planning to raid his country home in Okenne, Kogi State, and had planned to plant huge sums of money in order to indict him. Adoke, said this in a statement by his media aide, Victor Akhidenor.
4. Report says the nation’s crude oil production has fallen from two million barrels per day to as low as 1.27 million barrels per day. The development is as a result of the shutdown of two major export grades. The 13-member oil cartel, in its newly released monthly oil market report, said Nigeria recorded the biggest decline of 157,000 bpd in March.
5. Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, will continue to lose cases because the anti-graft agency arrests people without proper and thorough investigation. In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Fayose further condemned the continued detention of former Governors of Benue and Niger States, Gabriel Suswam and Babangida Aliyu.
6. The Dean, School of Basic Medical Sciences at the Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ebonyi State, Prof. Robert Nneli was Friday killed alongside five others in fatal car accidents. Two accidents were recorded Thursday night at the 131 junction of the Abakaliki-Enugu federal highway. Report says the accidents occurred when it was raining and could have been caused by poor visibility or reckless driving.
7. Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has claimed that there are people in Aso Rock who don’t like him. He, however, boasted that nobody can stop him from visiting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa. He was addressing State House correspondents, after observing the Juma’at prayers with Buhari at the Aso Rock mosque of Friday.
8. Barely seven weeks to the local government election in Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom has inaugurated 23 Sole Administrators to manage the affairs of the local governments pending the elections of chairmen and councillors slated for June 3. Addressing the new administrators, Ortom who was represented by his deputy, Mr Benson Abounu, Ortom advised the officials to consult relevant stakeholders while focusing on people-oriented programmes.
9. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, have rejected the ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal which upheld the election of Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State. Pastor Ize-Iyamu described the judgment as one that cannot stand at the higher courts. Speaking after the ruling, Ize-Iyamu told PDP elders, leaders and party supporters at his campaign office that the battle had just begun.
10. The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has insisted that the $50million found in an apartment in Lagos by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was stolen by his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi. Wike threatened to sue the federal government if the matter is swept under the carpet
