Efforts by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the personal accounts of Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose with the Zenith Bank Plc were rebuffed by the Federal High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti that dismissed the anti-graft agency’s application for “lack of merit”.
The EFCC had on December 15, 2016, filed an application for a stay of execution of the court’s judgement of December 13, last year on the matter that the agency was erred in frozen Fayose’s account with the bank.
Dismissing the application on Tuesday, the presiding judge, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said that the EFCC had already filed an application at the Appeal Court challenging the judgement of the court.
He said that” once a judgment is being executed, you cannot stay the execution again”.
He, therefore, referred to Section 308 of the 1999 Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The judge said that there were no substantial points raised in the affidavit for the court to condemn the judgment already delivered by the court.
The Judge, therefore, dismissed the application saying it lacks merit.
U.S president, Mr Donald Trump, has stated that he won't allow the killing of Christians to continue in the world.

Tema Oil Refinery
Ghana’s only oil refinery, the Tema Oil Refinery, is shut after an explosion at a newly installed 5.8-million-euro crude oil heating unit, a senior union official told Reuters on Friday.
The blast at the crude distillation unit, which caused no casualties, is the latest problem to hit the refinery, which has for decades performed below its capacity of 45,000 barrels per day.
“It was a damper failure. It failed to open to allow heat to escape through the chimney and that led to the explosion,” one source said.
“The new furnace is now scrap,” said a union leader who declined to be identified.
The plant will restart after reconfiguration through a second furnace but output will drop to 30,000 barrels per day, the union leader said.
The state-owned refinery has been dogged by underinvestment, lack of maintenance and debt, which has caused it to perform below capacity.
The new government of President Nana Akufo-Addo said in its manifesto that it would expand the refinery.
The ‘Russian-made’ Ponzi scheme called MMM Nigeria has become not only
popular in the West Africa country but also across the ocean as the
international media has beamed its searchlight on what is now regarded
as Nigeria’s biggest money-double scheme ever.

It noted also that founder of the scheme Sergey Mavrodi went on the run

particip@nts to lose around $100million and also went on the run again,
earlier this (April precisely) after another scheme of his, Republic of
Bitcoin, failed.
It wrapped up its report with the revelation that South African banks
had, as at when the report was written in September, already shutting
down accounts linked to the MMM scheme.
For CNN which wrote its own report after the freezing of MMM scheme on
Tuesday, December 13, the bone of contention was the ‘meteoric rise of
the MMM Nigeria’ and how it all went to hell.

It noted that the scheme was actually launched in Nigeria in November
2015 but became very popular in 2016. It noted further that despite
government warnings against the scheme,
Nigerians went ahead to keep putting their funds into the Ponzi scheme.
Unemployment also played a part in the rise of MMM as fresh graduates
and the unemployed turned to the scheme to ‘keep body and soul
together’. It noted also that some religious leaders also helped to
confer legitimacy on MMM Nigeria by allowing it to be preached from the
pulpit by some members who are particip@nts in the scheme.
The BBC predicts a dark future for MMM Nigeria even after January 2017
In the BBC’s report, the theme is all about the big question ‘Will money
frozen in the scheme ever be returned?’ It noted that Mavrodi was
jailed for four years in Russia after the scheme lost families savings
of up to $100million. He was released in 2007 and not long after started
to present the scheme in Africa.
It reports that while it is unclear if people will ever get back their
invested money which has been frozen in the scheme, BBC noted that for
sure,
many people will lose their funds.
It ended its report with the doomsday prediction that “Even if MMM
reopens in January as it claims, it is likely that the scheme would
collapse at some point
A government report commissioned by the Federal Inland
Revenue Service and the Joint Tax Board has found that only 40
super-rich Nigerians pay correct tax on their income.
“With the assistance of international asset tracing professionals,
the government has already identified that the number of potential tax
defaulters is significant.”
A very reliable source in government told Punch during the week that
the report was prepared from tax data collected from the 36 states of
the federation and Abuja.
The source, a senior public servant, said the findings of the FIRS
would influence the fashioning of a new tax amnesty programme to be
launched by the Federal Government later this year. Additional findings
also revealed that government would soon go after super-rich tax
defaulters whose lavish lifestyles do not correlate with the small taxes
that they pay annually.
A senior government official told Punch during the week that “in the
process of tracing stolen funds, it has become apparent that a
significant number of Nigerians have assets and fund lifestyles that are
not consistent with their income as declared on their tax returns.
The tax report entitled, ‘List of individual taxpayers that paid N10m
and above in 2016’, was prepared on January 24, 2017. The document was
commissioned to examine the tax compliance of Nigerians who are “High
Net-Worth Individuals (HNIs).”
For the purpose of the exercise, HNIs were defined as Nigerians who
must have paid direct assessment tax of at least N10m in 2016 and, thus,
were assumed to have made at least N40m and above in income in the same
year.
The source said the main implication of the report was that most of the country’s rich and super-rich do not pay correct tax.
“Of course, there are more than 40 people who earn more than N40m in
Nigeria in 2016. The rich are not paying. It is the reason tax is just
six pe cent of our GDP,” the source said.
“Most HNIs are playing games with the system. They pay tax only on
their salaries, which is just a fraction of their income and hide the
rest. Where are all the big names that make hundreds of millions and
billions every year?” the source asked.

A 29-year old man, Chukwuemeka Obodozie who was involved in a
marriage fraud and used it to obtain money by tricks from five different
women has landed in more trouble after he absconded from court where
he’s expected to face trial in Lagos.
The court has declared him wanted while his in-law, Jude Iheruo, who
stood as surety for him at the Magistrate’s court sitting in Ejigbo, has
been arrested and remanded in prison.
Iheruo was arrested and arraigned in court on Friday for failing to
produce Chukwuemeka the lover oy in court as he had earlier promised and
enter into N50,000 bond in the court before the suspect was released to
him.
According to PM Express, so far, five women have showed up and
narrated on how Chukwuemeka promised them marriage at almost the same
time, obtained huge sums of money from them and dumped all of them when
he was discovered to be a scammer and later disappeared.
One of the women (name withheld) reported the matter to the police.
Chukwuemeka was arrested and charged before the court with fraud.
The ‘lover boy’ was granted bail but remanded in prison custody
before Iheruo went to the court and stood as his surety. But he later
jumped bail, thus when he repeatedly refused to appear in court, the
court then ordered the arrest of Iheruo who had promised to produce
Chukwuemekae when required to face trial.
At the court on Friday, Iheruo said that since he is married to
Chukwuemeka’s sister, when he was arrested and charged to court, he felt
obliged to stand as one of the sureties because he was his in-law.
He said when Chukwuemeka was released from custody and the matter was
adjourned severally for trial, he later traveled out of Lagos.
He lamented that whenever he called him on phone, he mostly shun his
calls and whenever he picked, he will asked him to go and sort out
himself as he was no longer ready to face any trial.
Unfortunately, Iheruo was charged with an act of intentional showing
disrespect to the court by failing to produce Chukwuemeka in court after
entering into a bond as fit and suitable person to stand as surety for
the suspect.
He pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs J.O.E. Adeyemi granted him bail and
surety in like sum. He was remanded in prison pending when he will
perfect his bail condition.

*.Ramsey, your marriage appears to have stood the test of time.
You have been married for 15 years now. Some of your colleagues have
been unlucky in this regard.
RAMSEY: Contrary to a widely held notion, the success of a
marriage largely rests on the woman. But these days, a lot of marriages
are based on equality. A woman wants to get 50 per cent of whatever she
is giving into the marriage back from the man. This has led to the
breakdown of many marriages.
From time our mothers used to be the women that held their marriages.
They were in charge of the home. Our mothers took charge of everything
but today women don’t want that kind of responsibility. Hence, it is
affecting marriages.
My wife belongs to the category of “our mothers”. She believes in sustaining our marriage and holding it strong.
So whenever I am asked how we have been able to keep it together, I tell
them my wife is the woman who has actually held our home.
*.PT: Do you also accord her rightful place in the home?
RAMSEY: She doesn’t have a place because she owns the home.
It’s her call however (way) she wants things done. She is the driver of
the family and her decision is final. That is why I say she is not an
ordinary woman. She is a triple woman.
*.PT: Is she comfortable with your romantic and kissing scenes?
Ramsey: When some people ask me “how does your wife cope when
she sees you kissing other women in the movie?” and I tell them that my
wife is special.
She is not an ordinary woman. She understands things in a way many other
women don’t. That is why I say, an actor or actress, has to find that
special person. It is not love that will bond you. Forget love, love
dies. What sustains the marriage is companionship. If you cannot find
companionship in your partner from the beginning, then you do not have a
partner.
Don’t lust after a woman because of her beauty and don’t lust after a
guy because he is handsome. You must lust after the companionship that
bonds you together. It should be like “for some reasons you cannot do
without her; for some reasons there is something about her that brings
you home”.
It may be her sense of humour; or the way she keeps the home. Same thing
applies for the ladies; there must be something about him that you
cannot do without. If this quality is not there, then you don’t have a
companion.
*.PT: So, you guys have had it smooth sailing in your marriage all the while?
Ramsey: Don’t get me wrong, don’t think that we don't have our
moments of disagreement. But it depends on the way we handle it. Women
cannot stand the heat in the kitchen anymore and they just want to run.
That is why marriages are crumbling. A lot people don’t want to work
hard anymore, because marriage is hard work. So when you talk about
marriages crashing, it’s not my call. The only problem that I have is to
make sure I provide food for the family.
*.PT: Any counsel for your colleagues who have been unlucky with love and marriage?
Ramsey: Nobody gives advice when it comes to matters of the
heart. People say they are going for counseling and all but at the end,
it is what is in their heart is still what they want to do.
Because those things in your heart are laced with emotions and emotions are very hard to tackle.
When you have emotion that is full of jealousy, hate or anger, it is
hard to break it until you exercise it. That is why when your dad
screams ‘do not follow that boy’ the teenager does not listen until she
has satisfied what her heart desires from the boy. Most times, you learn
by experience.
Companionship is not easy. When everybody is running into marriages as
if marriage wants to go out of fashion, take your time and be ready for
it. Be ready to accept someone with his flaws. My wife has her problems
and I also have mine. A lot of it actually and I know. You must be able
to accommodate the other person.
*.PT: Divorce is on the rise. Why do you think this is so?
Ramsey: When a woman believes she earns more than the man, the
man should start doing the work of a woman like sweeping, changing
diapers. There is no sense in that. A woman’s place should not change
and the same applies to the man. I am not expecting a woman to overwork
herself with house chores. I help and support my wife when there is no
help in the house. I sweep when I have the time.
*.PT: In what ways do you also help out in the home?
Ramsey: I cooked two days before having this interview. I am a
great cook. No woman can do shakara for me oo. I made my stew and rice
with smoked chicken. I grew up with my mum and with her, you must know
how to sweep and do many other chores.
*.PT: Some of your fans cannot picture you doing house chores?
RAMSEY: The thing is that everyone now has the perspective of
wanting to live larger than life, forgetting the reality. We keep
forgetting that if we don’t do it, who will do it? At some point my wife
got tired of house helps. We have three kids at home and we have to
fend for them. I cannot
leave everything for her, so I help out.
Sometimes we tell the kids to wash their plates. At some point I
realized that my 12 and 13 years old could not sweep and that was very
wrong. So we started forcing them to clean. Most kids of these days
cannot sweep or clean. All they want to do is do is make their nails,
make their hair and carry big phones and tablets around.
*.PT: Are you romantic?
RAMSEY: Don’t judge me by my movie roles. I don’t think I am romantic. My wife does not think I am that romantic either.
*.PT: Many people wonder why you do not step out with your wife on the red carpet?
RAMSEY: My wife and I have an understanding. And this is one of
the reasons our marriage is still standing strong. We avoid the public
eye because the public has a way of messing up relationships. Sometimes,
my wife goes ahead of me into the event, so we don’t do red carpet. It
is the same people that harass you for not taking your wife to red
carpet event that will sit back and point fingers at how you both look.
*.PT: Some say you don’t take your wife to red carpet event because she is not beautiful?
RAMSEY: That is what they think. My wife is very cute. May be
because my wife is not loud or flashy when it comes to make-up or
wearing long weaves. She is very natural and she knows that I love her

Arsène Wenger has been given a four-match touchline ban by the Football Association following his altercation with the fourth official, Anthony Taylor, at the end of Arsenal’s dramatic 2-1 home win over Burnley last Sunday.

The FA had considered it as a “non-standard” issue because of the serious or unusual nature of the offence and it meant there was no set sanction. Wenger was also fined £25,000. Rev. O. Jermaine Simmons Sr., pastor of the popular Jacob Chapel
Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida, was forced to run for his life,
naked, when one of his parishioners caught him in bed with his wife on
Tuesday last week.
According to the Christian Post, the Tallahassee police reports Benjamin
Stephens III found his wife, Claynisha Stephens, 34, in bed with
37-year-old Pastor Simmons.
The pastor is married with one child, according to his church's website. Both Claynisha and Benjamin are his parishioners.
Claynisha, who has been married for seven years, told police that she first met Simmons in 2014, but
"they have been establishing a relationship" as of October 2016.
Last Tuesday, she said, Simmons came over to the home she shares with
her husband and their children so they could "talk over starting a
business, patents and trademarks, and providing less fortunate kids with
clothes and shoes."
During the meeting, she said they started having sex.
While they were engaged, her 6-year-old son's school was trying to get
in touch with her to pick him up. Since she did not answer, the school
reached out to the boy's father.
Benjamin picked up their son and headed home only to discover his wife engaged with Simmons in their oldest daughter's bedroom.
After seeing the pair having sex inside the room of his daughter, a
furious Benjamin grabbed his handgun and reportedly screamed, "I'm gonna

Claynisha told police that her husband decided against shooting her
because her son was present. She explained that she tried to gather the
pastor's clothes to return them to him but her husband took the clothes
and said he would drop them off at the church.
Claynisha said her husband stated that
he "should have shot Simmons and expose him."
He also threatened to expose him on Facebook and show up at church on Sunday to "make a statement."
She said she pleaded with her husband not to make a statement to the
church because it would make their pastor "look bad." Her husband
allegedly told her to "shut up" while still waving the handgun around
but not directly at her.
The frightened pastor eventually had one of his other parishioners pick
him up from where he was hiding and indicated that along with all his
clothes, Claynisha's husband had taken his car keys, wallet, business
keys and other personal effects.
Police were eventually able to arrange for the return of the pastor's belongings.
The pastor, according to the police report, declined to press charges
against Claynisha's husband, but Claynisha has indicated in a sworn
statement that she will be pressing charges against her husband. It was
unclear on Monday afternoon if she had acted on that statement.
The Christian Post reached out to Jacob Chapel on Monday and was told
that Simmons remained the pastor of the church. When asked if any action
had been taken against him regarding the incident, an official who did
not identify herself declined to comment.
A former parishioner, who wished to remain anonymous, told CP that
Simmons and his church had done a lot of good in the community prior to
the incident.
"Before this incident and that pastor — that church has done a lot of
good throughout that community. [The church] helped people with bills,
helped people find jobs, helped people get off drugs. There has been a
lot of positive things done in this church," he said. According to the
church's website, Simmons is the ninth pastor of the more than
80-year-old Jacob Chapel and he is also a fourth generation pastor and
former public school teacher.
Since his arrival at the church in 2005, more than "4,000 souls have been added to the Body of Christ and the local church."
"Under Pastor Simmons' leadership, Jacob Chapel has literally fed the
hungry, clothed the naked, ministered to those in prisons, and built
houses for those without shelter. It is the message of the Cross, the
death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ from the grave which
continues to fuel the fire that burns within this passionate preacher

2016, Simmons offers a fresh, down-to-Earth perspective on the issues
of godly manhood, mentoring, and identity.

A 20-year-old man, identified as Umar Muhammad, has reportedly
drowned after he fell into an open water on Thursday at Dam Agundi area
of Kano State.
This was disclosed to reporters by the Director of Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Mustafa Rilwan, in kano on Friday.
According to him, someone in the neighbourhood called the state Fire
Service and informed them that a body was found floating in the water.
He said, “Upon receiving the information, we quickly dispatched our secure team and a vehicle to the scene, at about 7:00 p. m.
Rilwan said Muhammad’s body was recovered and later conveyed to the
Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
The Director, however, advised the general public to shun the habit
of bathing in open water, adding that they should rather fetch the water
to where they are to have their bath.
Fourteen out of the twenty-six Ondo State House of Assembly lawmakers
on Friday evening sacked their speaker, Rt. Hon. Jumoke Akindele over
alleged N15million naira fraud.
But sources within the information unit of the Assembly, who spoke
with DAILY POST in confidence said the embattled speaker was only
“suspended.”
The sledge hammer was not only on the speaker as other principal
officers, including the Deputy speaker, majority leader and others were
also sent packing by the legislators.
The aggrieved lawmakers have also appointed an acting Speaker, Mr.
Malachi Coker, from Ilaje constituency II, while Hon. Ayodele Arowole
from Owo state constituency I was picked as his deputy.
Also, Hon. Olamide George from Akure north State constituency has been appointed as the Majority leader.
The suspension followed an incident, where the house paymaster was
allegedly caught by members of the assembly with the sum of N15million
at the premises of the Assembly.
When confronted, the paymaster said he was acting on the instruction
of the suspended speaker, Princess Jumoke Akindele, who ordered him to
bring the money to her residence.
The house which eventually sat at about 5pm moved that the leadership
under Akindele had failed, as the lawmakers were not aware of the
approval of the said sum.
However, DAILY POST gathered that the removal of Akindele as the speaker was beyond the issue of fraud.
It was learnt that majority of the lawmakers are only preparing the
ground for the incoming governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, who will be
sworn-in on February 24.
Another source also said the lawmakers decided to sack Akindele
because she had not been protecting their interest despite her closeness
with Governor Olusegun Mimiko.
Recently, the lawmakers rejected 38 bills sent to the Assembly by
Mimiko on the ground that the governor must pay them their allowances
before they could act on them.

The
Police have arrested four persons over the kidnap of some teachers and
pupils of the Nigeria Tulip College (NTIC) in Isheri north of Ogun
State on January 23.
The suspects are Bekewei Agbojule, aka
Prince Yellow, Are Philip Joel Kakadu, aka “General Kakadu,” a militant
leader, Romeo Council, aka Raw and Totki Okoda.
A statement in Abuja yesterday, the
Force Spokesman, Don Awunah, reads: “The IGP’s Intelligence Response
Team (IRT), working in synergy with the Tactical Intelligence Unit (TIU)
of the Nigeria Police Force in a joint operation supervised by AIG
Kayode Aderanti, AIG Zone 2, Lagos, successfully smashed a notorious
kidnap gang and arrested four vicious kidnappers who are active members
of the gang responsible for the kidnap for ransom of five Turkish
school children and three members of staff of the school in Ogun State
on January 13.
“In the course of investigation into
the dastardly crime, three suspects namely Are Philip Joel Kakadu aka
“General Kakadu” a militant leader; Romeo Council aka “Raw” and Totki
Okoda who lives in the fishermen’s community behind the school and
provided information about the victims to his gang, were trailed and
arrested at different locations in Delta, Ogun and Lagos States
respectively, for the criminal roles they played in the commission of
the crime.
“Further investigation and sustained
pursuit of the matter by the Intelligence Response Team, led to the
arrest of Bekewei Agbojule aka “Prince Yellow”, a principal suspect and
one of the key members of the gang on January 25, at about 7am. The
suspect who is an Ijaw from Arogbo town in Ondo State was arrested after
he came out of the creeks to enjoy his loot.
“About N1,200,000, his share of the
ransom money was recovered from him. The four suspects confessed to the
crime, volunteered useful statements to the investigators and are
cooperating with the police.”
Apostle Johnson Suleiman of the Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide has opened up on the attempt to arrest him by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).
Suleiman was on a two-day crusade in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state when the DSS operatives tried to arrest him but he was saved by Governor Ayodele Fayose who arrived in time and stopped the operatives from whisking him away.
Sources said the security officials wanted to arrest him early on Wednesday morning, for inciting his audience to rise up against Fulani herdsmen.
Speaking recently in Auchi, Edo state, the man of God called on his members to defend themselves and kill any Fulani herdsmen they find near him or his church.
Suleiman has spoken after the incident and are some things he said.
1. I called some people that there are some men here who say they want to see me at this dead hour of the night, something is fishy.
2. They came with trucks and all that but the governor came and took me out.
3. They tried to break into the place but the crowd scared them.
4. If I spend one day with the security operatives, the damage that will happen in Nigeria will take one year to repair.
5. I have churches in 42 countries and I have alerted them. Every Nigerian embassy in those countries will be in trouble.
6. In this country alone, I have over half a million people and there are reactions already.
Meanwhile news of the foiled arrest of Pastor Suleiman has been generating reactions from Nigerians with many condemning the DSS for its action.

The national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has noted the current hard times that have enveloped Nigerians stressing that the country needed an economic restructuring that would require a change in mindset and strategy.
Daily Trust reports that while speaking on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the National Defence College (NDC) Abuja, during the presentation of paper titled: ‘Strategic leadership: my personal theory and practice’, the former governor of Lagos said Nigeria’s monetary policy must be consistent with the environmental need of the country’s domestic requirements.
He lamented that much is tied down warning the government to urgently ease its current monetary policy.
Apart from this, the government, he said, must stimulate the economy.
“You have to spend yourself out of this recession and you cannot do that by consistently stifling the banks of liquidity.
“Sincerely, where we see contradiction in the policy, we are going to talk about it, this is a nation of freedom, a democratic country, and this is our government, we are not like the other party who will invent one lie to lie, and to bury a lie and other mistakes.
“The monetary policy needs constant reviews and evaluations, and how it would affect the market and ordinary people as well, because if there is no liquidity in the market the Banks would price out the ordinary man, and inflation is growing at 18 percent,” he reportedly warned adding that at this stage, deficit spending is essential to boost employment and development.
According to him, it is necessary to harmonise monetary policy with fiscal policy, because a tight monetary policy would injure goals where fiscal policy comes with deficit.
Tinubu reportedly advised that the country’s trade policy be re-aligned to create a strong industrial base and boost agriculture.
He reportedly noted that industrialization was necessary and that the country can no longer allow cheap imports to take over its system.
