Attempted murder of Enugu ex-commissioner – Police arrests suspects

The Special Anti-Robbrey Squad, SARS, yesterday, arrested the alleged
masterminds of the attempted murder of Enugu ex-commissioner, Beloved-Dan
Anike.
The suspects were Fancis Anike and Andrew Okolo, Vanguard reports.
The former commissioner, a zonal pastor of the Redeem Christian Church of God,
RCCG, was reportedly attacked over his opposition to the indiscriminate resale of
people’s land and parcellation of 20 plots of land in Umuchigbo Secondary School
Francis, is the Chairman of Umuchigbo-Iji-Nike community.
The arrest came following pressure by groups, including the Christian Association
of Nigeria, CAN, and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, Enugu-East
Local Government Area Chapter.
A statement jointly signed by CAN Chairman, Rev. Henry Omenkenkwu, and PFN
Chairman, Apostle Joshua Nnamani, condemned “the nonchalant attitude of the
police, both at the Nike Division and the SARS”.
“We are always thanking God that the police is now doing a good work but they
failed in this matter. Therefore we ask,is it because the person attacked is a
pastor?
“Or did anybody ask the police not to respond to the cry of these innocent people.
We are confused and may be forced to approach a higher command to tell us what
we want to hear.
“This is a barbaric, inhuman and wicked handwork of evil men. It has to stop so that
peace will be restored in Nike community.
“We also call on the noble sons and daughters of Nike community to rise and
condemn this dastardly act”, the groups had stated.
