Reports indicate Davido, Wizkid to renew 'feuding'

Nigerian music industry watchers say Wizkid might be getting set to put pen to paper in a massive deal with American heavyweights Sony and RCA, that’s if he hasn’t already signed to them.

It’s amazing and with this comes yet another breakthrough for African entertainment.

Before now, Davido was the only Nigerian musician signed to Sony and RCA, but several others have also enjoyed the wave of greatness currently sweeping the industry.

Ayo Jay is currently signed to RCA Records. Tiwa Savage has a management deal with Roc Nation and Seyi Shay has something with Island Records.
Interesting times, truly interesting times for Nigerian music.

On Monday, September 12, 2016, renowned music blogger and industry critic Ovie took to Twitter and announced that the Ojuelegba star is gearing up for the big move to Sony/ RCA.
In a set of tweets, Ovie stated that the deal places David and Wiz on same pedestal pretty much, with each man expected to churn out world class materials in a genre that has been very recently referred to as Afrobeats by international media.

Both deals are astounding and according to sources in the know when we consider today’s dollar rates in the local market, both pop stars could well be swinging within the billion naira mark in terms of the commercial properties of the contract.

But we are yet to ascertain really so it is a bit early concluding. Whatever the case, these young men are on to some greatness musically and you can see.
Davido is flying first class to every part of earth’s surface as he wows fans and non-fans alike. There are videos everywhere to show.

On his own part, Wikid is making history in every way possible. Starting from April 2016, his One Dance collaboration with Drake topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for several weeks, sending strong signals to the world about our music.

In June 2016, he linked up with Chris Brown in Amsterdam on the set of the latter’s One Hell Of A Nite tour and together they tore the stage to shreds.

In truth, all of this is magical and we can’t get enough of the goodness.

But there are knotty aspects of this new Sony/RCA involvement that brings to the front burner yet again the situation between Wizkid and Davido.

Over the years, there have been speculations of a rift between both singers.
Their case isn’t exactly new to industry critics but we will love to think with each man charting a seemingly separate course in his career, they have managed to steer clear of irrelevant feuding on the back of which soft sell and lifestyle magazines thrive.

But the heat has been turned back on, how they respond to this is what will determine which way things pan for them and their relationship into the future under the Sony/RCA umbrella.

The music deal they both have is definitely groundbreaking and we can’t even nearly deny the multiplier effects it brings Nigerian music in general.

But something has to give. They are both stars in their rights but they will never be equally influential under the new imprint.
What this means is one man will at some point outshine the other. It is just a natural thing but anyhow it plays out we are glad they are on to some major feats here.

We are impressed the global record companies are switching attention this way and putting us on the map as deserved.
Davido is a star, Wizkid is a star; in the end they will both deliver top-notch projects under the labels and we will all be fine.

One is pretty optimistic about their sojourns – despite not expecting them to perform equally and at same pace, which is natural.

Long live these youngsters, long live the Nigerian music industry in general and here’s to more successes as we continue in our strive for greatness.
Hopefully it gets massive to the point where the Nigerian authorities realize we can actually run the economy off supporting this sector to large extents instead of relying totally on crude oil and gas.
