Breaking: Atletico Madrid signs Super Falcons, Ordega

Super Falcons Striker,24-year old, Francisca Ordega has been signed on by Spanish Football club, Aletico Madrid.
According to the club’s website, the Nigerian forward comes from the American Washington Spirit.
The club states: ‘Atletico de Madrid Femenino strengthens its offensive line with Francisca Ordega, who arrives from the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League.
The 24-year-old Nigerian footballer is on the front line and will wear our jersey until next March when he will start a new edition of the American competition.
After successfully completing the relevant medical examination, Francisca Ordega signed the contract that binds her to our club and was happy to wear rojiblanco.
“For me it is an honor and I am very happy to be here. Atletico Madrid is a great club, internationally recognized, and I really want to start,” he told the club’s website.
Questioned by how she is defined as a footballer, Francisca Ordega asserts that as a “strong player physically, athletic and very fast” and although she recognizes that she will need a period of adaptation, she concludes: “I will make the fans proud.

272 birthday of Ex-Nigerian slave Olaudah Equiano dominates Google search

The engaging story of Olaudah Equiano, the Igbo slave man, who played a leading role in the abolition of slave trade after becoming free 270 years ago, dominated searches on Google this week.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoting Google’s spokesman Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, reports that hundreds of Nigerians took to the internet search engine to know more about Equiano.
Kola-Ogunlade said that apart from the Equiano narrative, international sports and celebrity news also dominated Google searches.
“Equiano’s autobiography: ‘The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano’, played a crucial role in alerting the 18th-century slave traders to end the suffering endured by slaves.
Google celebrated Equiano’s achievement with a Google Doodle, which made Nigerian users to race to Google to read more about the history behind the Doodle.”
The spokesman said that in the world of sports, the newly transferred English player, Jadon Sancho, was reported to have displayed some impressive moves that helped secure a win for his club.
Kola-Ogunlade recalled that the march ended  2-0 between Borussia Dortmund and Apoel Nicosia at the ongoing UEFA Youth League in India on Oct. 17.
He said that Sancho, who was a former Manchester City youth player, had been recalled by Dortmund from England’s ongoing Under-17.
“Excited fans raced to Google to search for more details about the ongoing UEFA Youth League matches,’’ the spokesman said.
The manager said further that the British actress and Game of Thrones, star Sophie Turner, was reported to be engaged to singer Joe Jonas.
He said that the couple announced their engagement on October 15 via Instagram by posting the picture of Sophie’s engagement.

“Fans have expressed disappointment at Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Watford last Saturday at Vicarage Road, Watford,’’ Kola-Ogunlade said.

According to him, displeased fans raced to Google to search for more information about the match.
Google Trends launched in May 2006, allows one to see how popular, search terms and its demography have been over time on Google.

Court orders six strokes of cane on man for stealing ladder

A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Friday ordered that 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Yunisa, be given six strokes of cane for stealing a ladder.
Yunisa, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to one-count charge of theft and begged for leniency.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, told the convict that he mitigated the sentence because he pleaded for leniency.
Sadiq said the court might not be lenient with him the next time he appeared.
The Prosecutor, Mrs Florence Avhioboh, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Oct. 12.
She said the theft was reported at Karmo Police Station by Jacob Friday of Mararaba area in Nasarawa State.
She added that the convict, who was found with the ladder at Dape village, Abuja, could not give satisfactory explanation on how he got it.
Avhioboh said Yunisa had confessed that he stole the ladder at a building under construction in Abuja, an offence against Section 288 of the Penal Code.
