UK committed to making Nigeria better place, says envoy
British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, said UK and Queen Elizabeth II were committed to playing key role in making Nigeria a better place.
Arkwright, according to a statement by Joseph Abuku, Media Officer, British High Commission in Nigeria, stated this at a ceremony to mark the queen’s 91st birthday in Abuja on Tuesday.
The High Commissioner said that the celebration was a mark of strong partnership between the UK and Nigeria.
He said that UK and the Queen were playing a key role to work with other stakeholders to make Nigeria a place where corruption would find no place to hide.
The envoy said that British Government was also committed to working together with the private sector and civil society organisations to create jobs and promote growth.
He said that the task of job creation for over two million young people that entered job market every year had become important and more urgent.
“In a world which seems to be changing at a bewildering pace, I’d like to pay tribute to Her Majesty.
“A remarkable woman whose devotion to duty, steadfast faith and sense of service to her people is unparalleled – a lesson to us all.
“I would also like to pay tribute to all of those who are striving to make Nigeria a better place, where people are treated equally, where corruption can find no hiding place,” he said.
According to him, the UK and Her Majesty’s Government are also playing a key role in this effort.
Arkwright said that Nigeria was UK’s biggest and most important post in Africa, with seven offices in the country and over 800 people working for the British Government in Nigeira
