I was suspended but my mouth was not suspended - senator Ndume

The Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has insisted that he did nothing wrong in the Senate and that he will always continue to speak the truth.
Ndume has been suspended for six months after he demanded that allegations against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Dino Melaye, be investigated.
Saraki was accused of owning a vehicle that was imported with fake documents, while Melaye was said to have forged his university certificate.
Both men were eventually cleared by the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
Speaking to his constituents on Sunday, Ndume stated that he preferred to be alone in the upper chamber, than betray Nigerians.
He remained adamant that he did not regret supporting President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption and that the suspension would not stop him from practising the truth in the interest of the nation.
“As far I am concerned, I wronged no one in the senate and I am not regretting my loyalty and support for President Buhari’s fight against corruption as well as all forms of financial crimes,” he said

Why I supported my ‘radical’ daughter for slapping a man – Sanusi

The monarch in a video message that introduced the young lady before she presented the paper on his behalf, said it was wrong for any man to disrespect a lady. The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi II, has recalled how he supported his daughter, Shaheeda when she slapped a man during her school days.
Saunsi said his daughter, who represented him at the BBOG movement’s third anniversary lecture for missing Chibok girls in Abuja last Friday, said the girl is a strange being.
“Let me tell you something about the young lady who is going to read my speech. Shaheeda is a graduate of African Leadership Academy in South Africa and a graduate from New York University as a Biology major.
“But long before she went to African Leadership Academy, when she was in Form 3, I remember an incident that is probably relevant for today.
“She said: ‘Your daughter slapped a boy in school’. It is a bit strange so, I called Shaheeda and said: ‘Shaheeda, I heard that you slapped a boy in school. Why did you do it?’
“Then she said: ‘Dad, that boy has no respect for women’.
“So, I asked her exactly what she meant by that. It turned out that one day, during prep in the afternoon, in full class, the boy had come to her, and put his finger to her forehead and pushed it backwards, and he was in the habit of doing it to all the girls in the class.
According to the royal father, his daughter is the type that would not watch any man subject her to any form of maltreatment in the name of marriage.
His words, “So, long before we started talking about marriage and talking about whether when your husband slaps you, you should slap him back, Shaheeda had decided for herself that she would not take abuse, she would not take insult and she would not be disrespected by any man.
“As you will see when she presents this paper and maybe if she has the time to speak her own mind, those who are opposed to my views and those who think that I am a problem have a much bigger problem to deal with in the next generation of Sanusis.
Sanusi, a former CBN boss said those who have been attacking him for speaking the truth should buckle up as his children who are coming up seem to be far more radical, outspoken and fearless than him.
He said, “They are far more radical, they are more progressive, they are far more committed, they are far more fearless.
“So, maybe it is time for us to address these issues before those group of tigers come to the scene,” the Emir recalled in the video message shortly before his daughter read out the paper.

He maintained that with the work done, the April 19 deadline for the reopening of the airport is no longer in doubt.
“All the critical items of work are 100 per cent except may be two items; which of course are the markings and the cleaning.
“Asphalt work is 100 per cent, markings have reached almost 70 per cent and the airfield lighting system has reached 80 per cent, ” Dunoma added.
According to him, the authority also used the opportunity provided by the closure of the airport to address other Airport Excellence in Safety (APEX) related items.
He said :” We are now levelling all the airfield lightings’ locations, all the installations and flash with the ground surface.
” In case of any skidding, there will not be concrete projection above the ground surface.”
The FAAN boss further explained that the newly constructed runway does not need calibration because the previous Navigational Aids were not tampered with.

“The runway does not need calibration. All we need to check is to make sure there is 100 per cent illumination.
“Calibration is done periodically. When the time come for calibration, the appropriate authority will calibrate the Instrument Landing System (ILS),”he said .
Dunoma also noted that the terminal building was also ready for flight operations.
The Abuja airport was shut on March 8 for six weeks to enable Julius Berger rebuild the 3.6 kilometre runway.
The runway, which was constructed in 1982 was meant to last for 20 years, but had been in use for 35 years without major repairs and maintenance.
