Frog business blooms in Nigeria

A new delicacy may have hopped on to the Nigerian menu as traders from across the country are queuing up to buy frogs at Dorawa Salau Kadawa, a village in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of Kano State. On a visit to the frogs market, PREMIUM TIMES correspondent observed people from different parts of Nigeria purchasing the reptile in large quantities to take back home. The buyers have erected camps at the village and brought a bloom to its economy. According to some of the patrons, however, the trade in frogs is not a new line of business. Sadikatu Ajiboye said she has been in the business for 15 years. She told our reporter that she was bringing kolanut up north to Kano, until she realized that frogs have a greater turnover in the south than any other article of trade she was taking back. Mrs. Ajiboye, 56 years old, said the trade in frogs earns her huge returns on a weekly basis. She said a small carton of the reptile fetched as much as N5000, with a piece sold at N200. The mother of two said she distributed the delicacy across states in the south-west, south- east and south-south. She said people even paid upfront for the frogs.

Solomon Nwafor from Abia State said he is a
hunter of frogs in Dorawa Salau Kadawa
village of Kano.

Mr. Nwafor said he wakes up as early as
possible in the morning to hunt, and
sometimes late in the evening too.
The hunters use hooks to catch the frogs. Mr.
Nwafor said he makes an average of N20,000
weekly in sales of the frogs.
The frog hunter said he enjoyed a peaceful
relationship with his host community, as the
villagers never harass the hunters or disturb
their business.
“Because of the understanding that exists
between us, we the frog marketers and our
Hausa (hosts), our business has kept growing
by the day with more people coming to
purchase. Some (patrons) even export to
Asia,” Mr. Nwafor said.

Pope Marks Luther Anniversary In Sweden

Pope Francis has taken part in
events to commemorate the
anniversary of the Protestant
Reformation during his trip to
Sweden.
The Pope appealed to Catholics
and Lutherans to “mend”
history and look with honesty
at the past, “recognising error
and seeking forgiveness”.
By tradition, on 31 October
1517 the German theologian
Martin Luther nailed his 95
theses to the door of a church.
The papal visit kicks off a year
of events to mark the
quincentenary.
Pope Francis and Lutheran
leaders presided over a
ecumenical prayer service in
Lund cathedral in southern
Sweden on Monday.
The leader of the Roman
Catholic Church praised the
Reformation for helping to give
greater centrality to scripture in
the church’s life.
Luther’s pamphlet attacked
excesses and abuses within the
church, and his actions and
writings were hugely significant
in the schism which developed
in Western Christianity, which
became known as the
Reformation.
Luther was subsequently
excommunicated, but his
teachings spread throughout
northern Europe.
Decades of religious wars in
Europe followed.
The Church of Sweden is part of
the Lutheran branch of
Protestantism, though the
country is largely secular.
In a joint statement, the Roman
Catholic Church and the
Lutheran World Federation said
that both partners “are no
longer strangers” and that their
joint goal was to bring
members of the two churches
together at the Eucharistic table.
Pope Francis has previously
praised Luther for his fight
against corruption and greed in
the church of the time.
He has also criticised his own
church, calling on it to shun
greed, reports the BBC.

Terrible!! See Shocking Photos From The Accident That Happens Along Ibadan Express Road, Passengers Burnt To Death

Read what our Reporters sent to us below:-
A terrible accident happened today (Sunday 30
October 2016) around 4:00pm involving a
fourteen seater bus and a car, the bus had a
burst tyre while on motion, and ran into the
car.
The two passengers in the car lost there life on
the spot, while five other people from the bus
was burnt beyond recognition. With the help of
some road safety officers, police officers and
some passers-by, we were able to carry those
alive to OAU teaching hospital and seven days
adventist both in ife, two others life’s were lost
when we got to hospitals, doctors and nurses
are attending to others.
If the emergency system in this country was
fast and reliable, we would have been able to
save more souls. It took us more than an hour
before we could get to the nearest hospital,
souls are perishing on our roads on daily basis
due to bad roads and poor health system, yet
one selfish politician will steal trillions of naira
meant for this purposes.
May the Lord have mercy on us all. I think
people should also be enlightened on the needs
to provide assistance to victims involved in
accident, I didn’t see the spirit of a good
Nigerian on the road today as people were not
ready to help us carry the injured victims,
either military men on uniform refused to
render help.
See photos from the Accident scene below:-

Please put these victims in your prayers.
May God in his Infinite mercy guide us and keep
us all away from any evils around. || By his
Grace, We won’t Jam anyone and no one will jam
us
