Indonesian League: Osaze Odemwingie scores in debut

Former Super Eagles striker Osaze Odemwingie scored in debut for his Indonesian club, Madura United as they beat Bali United Pusam 2-0 to open the new season on Sunday.
Bayu Sanggiawan had given Madura the lead in the 32nd minute, before Odemwingie, who came in as a substitute, scored in the 74th minute to seal the win.
Odemwingie joined the Indonesian side from England lower division club Rotherham United as a free agent on 3 April.
During his time in the England, Odemwingie played for West Brom, Stoke, Cardiff and Bristol City (loan).
He also played for Lille in French Ligue 1, La Louviere in the Belgian first division and in the Russian top flight with Lokomotiv Moscow.
Odemwingie had a rough patch since suffering a serious injury two seasons ago while at English Premier League side Stoke City. He had a loan spell at Championship side Bristol City but failed to regain the form that made him a feared force in the English Premier League.
He is now part of the big name players plying their trade in Indonesia with former Ghana, Chelsea and Real Madrid ace Mikel Essien.
Madura temporarily stay atop the league table.

North Korea warns U.S on ‘provocative’ action

North Korea has warned the United States not to take provocative action in the region, saying it is “ready to hit back with nuclear attacks.”
The comments came just as North Korea marked the 105th anniversary of the birth of its founding president, Kim Il-sung, the BBC reports.
A huge parade in Pyongyang was held amid speculation current leader Kim Jong-un could order a new nuclear test.
Among the hardware on display appeared to be new intercontinental and submarine-launched ballistic missiles.
The show of strength comes amid mounting tension, with a U.S aircraft carrier group steaming towards the region.
“We’re prepared to respond to an all-out war with an all-out war,” said Choe Ryong-hae, believed to be the country’s second most powerful official.
“We are ready to hit back with nuclear attacks of our own style against any nuclear attacks,” he said.
Rows of military bands and goose-stepping and sword-wielding soldiers marched through Pyongyang’s main Kim Il-sung square for the “Day of the Sun” celebrations, as a black-suited Kim Jong-un watched on.
He saluted an honour guard and took his place on the podium.
At times he appeared relaxed and laughed with aides.
With concerns that North Korea is getting closer to successfully producing a nuclear arsenal, Saturday’s parade was an opportunity for Mr. Kim to broadcast North Korea’s current military capabilities.

Edo monarch urges Ize-Iyamu to accept tribunal’s verdict

The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, on Saturday advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Edo State, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to accept the verdict of the state election petitions tribunal.

A statement signed by the monarch’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Desmond Agbama, said the monarch noted that despite the tribunal’s verdict, there was no victor no vanquished in the election.

The three-man tribunal on Friday dismissed Ize-Iyamu’s petition and upheld the victory of Governor Goodwin Obaseki.

Ize-Iyamu and his party, the PDP, had challenged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration of Obaseki of the All Peoples Congress (APC) as winner of the Sept 28, 2016 governorship election in Edo.

“In an election, there is no victor and no vanquished.

“Consequently, Osagie Ize-Iyamu should accept the decision of the tribunal in good faith and forge ahead in the task of providing democracy dividends for the people,” the Oba said.

He congratulated Obaseki on his victory, and urged him to focus on sanitising the society, providing critical infrastructure and creating job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths in the state
