This is not the change Buhari, Tinubu promised Nigerians – Cardinal Anthony Okogie

The emeritus Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Cardinal Anthony Okogie has berated the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government, saying the change the President and a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu campaigned for in 2015 is not what is currently on ground.

Okogie said Buhari and his party have deviated from all their promises to Nigerians during the 2015 Presidential election.

“At the inauguration of APC government, President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech was about change, but they have now played on his intelligence. This is my own view. They saw that this man who put him there may try to turn the table, so they looked for those who Tinubu doesn’t seem to like, and made them his enemies.“It’s obvious to all now that this is not the kind of change people like Alhaji Bola Ahmed Tinubu, campaigned for. The man who was talking about change, change, change, this is not the kind of change they preached,” he told Vanguard.

“When they now saw where he was going, they are now trying to bring the man back. If it’s not too late, I don’t know!.”

The Catholic Bishop maintained that most people in the camp of Buhari were focused on monetary gains rather fulfilling the promises they made to Nigerians.

He said, “Our heavenly father, when He was sending each and everyone of us to this world, didn’t send us empty handed. Every creature, human being especially was given talents right from our mother’s womb and in His infinite kindness directs it, otherwise you will not be what you are. Some people who think they know better than God, unfortunately try to jump into what God didn’t make them to be.

“Let’s take Nigeria for instance, 2019 is coming, there will be election, those who are not meant for it will go into it. Why? Not to improve the nation, not for the glory of God, but because of money.”

Why we open Biafran first embassy in Spain – IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has given reasons why it chose to open its first embassy in Spain.

IPOB said it was due to the country’s rich knowledge and history of fighting for freedom.

The group said the choice of a country in the Basque Region was because they would not betray Biafra like others did in the past.

The disclosure was made by the Head of Directorate of State, DOS, of IPOB, Uchenna Asiegbu.

He said the group put into consideration core values, respect and protection of freedom by the country.

Asiegbu noted that they were guided by history due to bitter lessons learnt in the struggle for Biafra.

Recently, a video of Biafra embassy in Spain was posted on Facebook.

In the video, Asiegbu, is seen taking a guest on a tour of the facility.

He said, “Our Mission in Spain was opened in 2014 by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with members of the Directorate of State from all over the world present. It’s primary purpose is to serve as the world administrative headquarters of IPOB.

“As you know IPOB is the largest movement of its kind anywhere in the world today, therefore we have our leadership scattered across every continent. Having our administrative head office in a place like the Basque country is also logistically sensible.”

The IPOB Director also gave hints on plans to open new embassies in some other major countries.

“It is on record that the Government of Spain has given us permission to kick-start our global Biafra Genocide Awareness exhibition in Vitoria Basque country, Spain. Their police will be there to protect us, and their media to report the event.

“We can also confirm that the Indian Government has giving us approval to open another mission in the subcontinent. Our strategy of quiet expansionism will take us to every part of the world. As soon as preparations are finalised, we shall invite world media to attend the opening, if they can overcome their bias by then.

Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know this Friday morning

1. Report says MTN Nigeria office in Abuja, the Nigerian capital, was invaded on Thursday afternoon by a group of angry Nigerians protesting the continued Xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other Africans in South Africa. The group demanded among other things, immediate action by the SA government.

2. The Independent National Electoral Commission disclosed on Thursday that it would prosecute 25 of its workers indicted by the report of the Joint Police/DSS Special Investigation Panel on the rerun elections of December 10, 2017 in Rivers State. The officials were indicted for allegedly collecting N111.3m as bribe during the rerun elections.

3. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has once again asked Christians and Nigerians to continue in their prayers for President Muhammadu Buhari until he returns to the country in good health. This was contained in a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant Media to the CAN President, Dr Samson Ayokunle, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

4. The Senate President, on Thursday, pleaded not guilty for the third time after another amendment was made in the charges brought against him by the Federal Government over false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT.

5. Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo Thursday, paid a surprise visit to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos to inspect facilities at the airport. Osinbajo’s visit to the airport follows a 60-day reform plan by the Federal Government to ease businesses in the country. His Media Aide, Laolu Akande disclosed this to the media.

6. The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed six special police units to Kaduna State, in an extraordinary effort geared towards the rescue of the two German archaeologists abducted, Wednesday, at an excavation site in Jenjela village, Kagarko Local Government Area of the state. Idris mandated the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, CIID, to coordinate the operations.

7. The five-year-old girl, Aliyah Masaku, who was attacked by an alsatian dog in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State, died on Wednesday at the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Report also has it that the owner of the dogs who is the Landlord of the house has relocated them from the area following the development.

8. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Anambra Governorship Election will hold on November 18, 2017. This was confirmed via their official Twitter handle on Thursday.

9. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, yesterday, reintroduced charges on cash deposits in banks, which would take effect at different dates across the country. Director, Banking and Payments Systems Department, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, announced this in a circular entitled: “Nationwide implementation of the cashless policy.”

10. The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Thursday, refused to summon the detained ex-National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki, retd, to testify why he gave N400 million to former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, ahead of the 2015 presidential election. Trial Judge, Okon Abang said the request was lacking in merit.
