NYSC warns over Night clubs - see why

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure has warned corps members against embarking on unnecessary travels and night pleasures due to safety and security risks.
Kazaure also encouraged corps members to respect cultures and traditions of host communities and to initiate projects and programmes that will promote such communities.

The NYSC boss gave the charge during a visit to the Rivers State Orientation Camp in Tai Local Government Area where he addressed members of the 2016 Batch B Stream Two.
He urged the corps members to pay adequate attention to skill acquisition training in the camp, which he said would help them overcome the challenges of searching for job after their service year.
“I congratulate you on your call-up to the NYSC Orientation camp. I want to crave your indulgence to be good citizens of Nigeria, to be good examples to your younger ones.
“You need to understand the terrain you have found yourselves and be very cautious of how you move.

“As Youth Corps members, you are meant be of good conduct. Stop making unnecessary trips and avoid going to night clubs,” he said.
On his part, the Rivers State Coordinator of NYSC, Omotayo Adewoye commended the government for providing enabling environment and good welfare for corps members

Germany may deport 12,000 Nigerians next year

More than 12,000 Nigerians may be deported from Germany in 2018.
This was revealed by Ralf Sanftenberg, the country’s global head of programme, migration and development, during his visit to the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diasport, Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

Sanftenberg, who is the leader of delegation from the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, said: “We have over 37,000 Nigerians in Germany and more than 12,000 of them are asylum seekers.
“There is a little chance for their applications to be moved and they may be forced to come back to Nigeria next year.”
He admitted that 99% of them would likely be denied asylum status, as Nigeria was not listed among war countries.
However, asylum seekers willing to return to Nigeria voluntarily will not be forced back or deported.

Cour sentences ‘yahoo boy’ to two years imprisonment

An internet fraudster, identified as Amegor Ovenseri was on Monday sentenced to two years imprisonment by a Federal High Court sitting in Benin, the Edo State capital for alleged internet fraud.
The accused was first arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on February 21, 2013 on a two count charge bordering on possession of fraudulent documents.

The suspect was arrested on the 18th of January, 2013 at his residence No. 56 Siloko Road, Benin City, by men of the JTF, 4 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Benin following a tip-off.
Laptops and phones were recovered from his residence at the point of arrest and were handed over to EFCC, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The magistrate, Justice P. I. Ajoku found Amergor guilty on a two count charge.
The count charge reads, “that you Amegor Ovenseri, on or about the 18th day of January, 2013, at Siluko road, Benin City, Edo State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court did with conspire with one Ede Amegor to commit felony to wit: obtaining by false pretence contrary to Section 8a of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act”.

Count two of the charge reads: “That you Amegor Ovenseri, on or about the 18th day of January, 2013, at Siluko road, Benin City, Edo State within the jurisdiction of this Honorable court did possess a document containing false representation to wit: A letter of introduction as frederyk from England, which said representation you made in a bid to obtain by false pretence, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 6 and 8b of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and Punishable under Section 1 (3) of the same Act.”
Amegor, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Justice P. I. Ajoku, consequently sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment without an option of fine on each of the charge counts. The sentences are to run concurrently.

116 Nigerians killed in South Africa

No fewer than 116 Nigerians have lost their lives in South Africa through extra-judicial means in the last two years.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who made this disclosure, noted that seven in 10 of the killings were carried out by the South African police.

The presidential aide made this known on Tuesday when she met with the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Lulu Louis Mnguni in Abuja.
“In the last two years, 116 Nigerians have been killed in South Africa and according to statistics, 63% of them were killed by the police,” Dabiri-Erewa said.
She said though some Nigerians may commit offence and deserve to be punished in line with the law, the extra judicial killings were worrisome.
She urged the South African authority to ensure the killings were thoroughly investigated and justice done.

“We should do more with our business relationships. And hopefully take over not just the African continent but also the world,” she said.
In his remarks, the High Commissioner assured, “We hope to sit down together and reflect on the matter and find a lasting solution to the killings”.
