Kenya, Rwanda Ban Poultry From Uganda Over Bird Flu Outbreak

Kenyan and Rwandan authorities on Wednesday said they have banned poultry products from neighbouring Uganda, where a virulent H5 strain of avian flu has broken out.


On Sunday, January 15, 2017, Uganda's agriculture ministry announced that it had detected avian flu among migratory birds, saying that it had since spread to a few domestic birds, a statement which led to Kenya and Uganda boycotting from poultry import from the neighboring country.

In a separate statement released by both countries, Kenya's agriculture cabinet secretary, Willy Bett said: 'The government banned the importation of poultry and poultry products from Uganda with immediate effect.'

While Christine Kanyandekwe from the Rwanda's agricultural department was also quoted to have said:

'Rwanda has put in place measures to prevent the disease. We have temporarily halted the import of poultry and poultry products.'

EFCC, SEC jointly declare total war against MMM

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, on Thursday vowed to clamp down on fraudulent operators in the Nigerian capital market.
Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman, EFCC, and his SEC counterpart, Mournir Gwarzo made the pledge while signing a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, for cooperation at the EFCC head office, Abuja.

Speaking, Magu stressed the need for both agencies to “pool resources together” in dealing with the menace of Ponzi schemes, which many Nigerian were currently at their mercy.
The collaboration will see the EFCC provide law enforcement muscle to give bite to SEC’s regulatory mandate in the capital market.
Gwarzo, on his part declared that the signing of the MoU will send a strong warning to fraudsters added that, “any operator of the capital market that crosses the red line will certainly be dealt with”.
The development signals onslaught against promoters of ponzi schemes like Mavrodi Mondial Movement, MMM, Get Help Worldwide, among others.

The
 EFCC also in November said MMM wasunder close watch.Recall that the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, had issued earnings against ponzi schemes.

Thausands flee from Gambia as new president was elected

Ahead of today’s inauguration of winner of the December 1 Presidential election in The Gambia, Adama Barrow, Gambians are fleeing the country out of fear of the unknown.
The incumbent President, Yahya Jammeh, who lost to the opposition leader, Barrow has refused to step down, despite international condemnation and a threat of a military intervention by West African countries to ensure he steps down.

Against the backdrop of Jammeh’s refusal to step down, Aljazeerah quoted the spokesperson of Barrow, Halifa Sallah as saying should Jammeh refuse to step down, “the inauguration would take place at the Gambian embassy in Dakar.”
Jammeh’s tenure as President expires today and Barrow who is currently in Senegal is determined to go ahead with his inauguration slated for today.
However, the country’s parliament, had on Wednesday backed Jammeh’s stay in office by extending his tenure by three months.‎
In a video by the report, one of the fleeing Gambians frowned at the political impasse in the country, saying they want peace.

She said, “We Gambians are tired of the suffering.
We want peace, we don’t have any option but to flee to Senegal.”

IDP camp bombing: Buhari has failed – Oby Ezekwesili blasts

The convener of the Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG group, Oby Ezekwesili, has lambasted President Muhammadu Buhari over his response to the accidental bombing of an Internally Displaced Person’s, IDP camp in Ranna, Borno State by Air Force officials.
The accidental bombing led to the loss of lives, during a final phase of mop up operation in the state.
But the Former Minister of Education says Buhari’s response was insensitive.
According to her, Buhari has failed as a leader to show sensitivity to the plight of citizens who are suffering greatly.
In a series of tweets ‏@obyezeks in which she tagged the president’s personal handle, @MBuhari, Ezekwesili tweeted:
