My husband sexually abusing our six-year-old daughter, wife tells court

A housewife in Abuja, Francisca Okechukwu, on Monday filed for divorce, accusing her husband, Tony Okechukwu, of sexually abusing their six-year old daughter.

In her divorce application filed at Jikwoyi Customary Court, Abuja, Francisca, a business woman, alleged that she had, on many occasions, caught her husband fiddling with her daughter’s private part.

She said, “I caught my husband touching my daughter’s private part, his biological daughter.”

The petitioner told the court that she had been suspecting her husband of the act “because of the way he carries the twin daughters.

“Each time he carries the children on his lap, his manhood will rise up, and if he is not satisfied with that, he will go and pull off his cloth and tie his towel.”

The petitioner also alleged that her husband might have had carnal knowledge of her daughter.

“There was a day the twin had a nap in their father’s room in the evening but when they were having their bath the next morning, one of them was complaining of a pain in her private part.

“When I checked her, I saw a cut which pained her for over three days.”

She therefore begged the court to dissolve the marriage and grant her custody of the children.

The husband, Okechukwu , also a business man, however denied all the allegations.

The Presiding officer, Mr. Labaran Gusau, adjourned the case to November 16th for hearing.

NCC threatens to sanction MTN, other networks over unsolicited telemarketing messages

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has given telecom operators one week ultimatum to comply with the directive of ‘Do Not Disturb’ (DND), issued by the body on April 20th, 2016, to address unwanted messages received by subscribers or face sanction.

According to a statement released today in Abuja by the Director of Public Affairs of the commission, Mr Tony Ojobo; NCC had written to all 13 networks providers in Nigeria, on whose networks the body had received series of complaints from subscribers regarding adherence to the ‘Do Not Disturb’ (DND) service rule issued to them by NCC.

Tony Ojobo said;

“The commission has engaged mobile network operators on this subject. 13 network operators risk severe sanctions by the commission. The network operators are Airtel Network Ltd., MTN Nigeria, Globacom Nigeria, Smile Communication, Visafone Comm unications, Ntel, Etisalat, Multi links, Starcomms, Danjay Telecoms, Gamjitel Ltd. and Gicell wireless. They are however given another one-week ultimatum from Monday, Nov. 14, to remedy the situation or face the sanctions enshrined in the directive. Worried by the non-compliance by the operators occasioned by deluge of complaints by subscribers across Nigeria, the NCC inaugurated an eight-member committee to look into the matter. After several meetings, including those it held with the network providers, it became necessary to issue the latest ultimatum to redress the menace of incessant unsolicited text messages and phone calls for telemarketing via the various networks. With respect to only information on emergencies for example, national security, fire notifications on network maintenance programmes down times and notification regarding subscribers bundle usage and service renewals. Other text messages and voice calls informing subscribers of new products and service offerings are not regarded as network generated and therefore regarded as “unsolicited marketing messages. The NCC has therefore asked these network providers to ensure that information on the Do Not Disturb service should be disseminated after every revenue generating activity via the End of Call Notification (EOCN) for the period not less than 45 days within the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily from the receipt of the latest letter on the subject. The operators are also admonished to deploy this information through all their channels of communications, including websites, social media platforms, bill boards, flash messages, text messages, Interactive Voice Response platform, radio jingles, newspapers advertisements and television commercials.”

Ojobo said that this notice served as a pre-enforcement notice and failure to comply with the directives in furtherance of the direction of April 20 within seven days from Nov. 14, 2016 shall result in the imposition of appropriate sanctions, adding that the menace of unsolicited text messages that find their ways into subscribers phones have been a nightmare to millions of subscribers and the commission would no longer accept any excuses whatsoever from the network providers, henceforth.

Scientists Finally Uncover The Tomb That Held The Body Of Jesus Christ (Photos)

 

The burial slab that many Christians believe once held the body of Jesus Christ has been uncovered by scientists for the first time in centuries.

The original surface was exposed during the restoration work being done at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City of Jerusalem, according to the National Geographic.

Until then, marble had encased the slab since at least 1555 AD.

The organization is filming the work being done at the church, which is considered the most sacred site in Christianity.

Fredrik Hiebert, the National Geographic Society’s archaeologist-in-residence, said: ‘The marble covering of the tomb has been pulled back, and we were surprised by the amount of fill material beneath it.

‘It will be a long scientific analysis, but we will finally be able to see the original rock surface on which, according to tradition, the body of Christ was laid.’

Christian tradition says Christ’s body was laid on a slab cut from a limestone cave after his crucifixion by the Romans more than two thousand years ago.

He was resurrected three days after his death, according to scripture, and the women who came to anoint his body said no remains were found.

The burial slab was enclosed in a structure known as the Edicule – a word derived from the Latin term aedicule meaning ‘little house.’

An ornate structure with hanging oil lamps, columns and oversize candlesticks, the Edicule was erected above the spot where Christian tradition says Jesus’ body was anointed, wrapped in cloth and buried before his resurrection.

It stands a few hundred yards from the site of Jesus’ crucifixion.

With its stone staircases, gilded ornamentation and many dark chambers, the church is one of Christianity’s holiest shrines.

But that hasn’t stopped clerics from engaging in turf rivalries over the years.

The Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Armenian churches are responsible for maintaining separate sections, and each denomination jealously guards its domain. While the clergymen who work and pray at the church generally get along, tensions can rise to the surface. In 2008, an argument between Greek Orthodox and Armenian monks erupted into a brawl.

This time, the clergymen put aside their differences — a reflection of the dire need for the repairs. Last year, Israeli police briefly shut down the building after Israel’s Antiquities Authority deemed it unsafe, prompting the Christian denominations to join forces.

The Edicule and the tomb are currently being restored by scientists from the National Technical University of Athens.

The university’s chief scientific supervisor Professor Antonia Moropoulou told National Geographic that it is ‘the critical moment’ for restoring the Edicule.

It was last reconstructed in the early 19th century after a fire destroyed it. But repairs are long overdue as the structure it was damaged in an earthquake in 1927.

Lack of financial resources prevented the work from being done, but donors to the project – estimated at more than $4 million (£3.26 million) – include Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Mica Ertegun, who gave $1.3 million (£1.06 million) to the World Monuments Fund to support it.

Earlier this year, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, as well as the the Roman Catholic Church, and the Armenian Orthodox Church (the three main out of six Christian sects that have custody of the church) invited the NTU to lead the restoration project.

Work is expected to be complete in the spring of 2017. The church, one of the world’s oldest, was built in 325 A.D. by the Roman Emperor Constantine.

That structure was destroyed in 1009 by Muslim Caliph al-Hakim. A 12th-century restoration by the Crusaders gave the Holy Sepulchre its current appearance, while in 1808 a fire all but destroyed the Edicule.

In 1852, the Ottoman authorities then governing the Holy Land provided a framework for resolving disputes inside the church.

They put into effect the ‘status quo,’ a set of historic laws and power-sharing arrangements that rigidly regulates the denominations’ activities inside the Holy Sepulchre.

The Rev. Athanasius Macora, a Franciscan monk who represents the Catholics at the inter-church commission that negotiates disputes at the Holy Sepulchre, said the renovation might have been more ambitious if not for the status quo rules.

‘I personally would have liked to maybe contemplate some alternative to simply restoring the current structure. But because the status quo is so conservative in its nature . we had to more or less accept the fact that there would be no change whatsoever to the current structure, and it would be restored as it is now,’ he said.

Still, for pilgrims like Italian Claudio Pardini, the restoration is ‘an important sign’ that all of the Christian churches are getting together to preserve their faith’s traditions.

Fayose Shades President Buhari Again, Says He Lack Ideas

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has said the country is currently grounded because President Buhari is bereft of ideas to lead the country. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Idowu Adelusi, Fayose who spoke when he addressed members of the state assembly yesterday in Ado Ekito the state capital, said :

“Very soon, APC will explode and disintegrate because it was founded on deceit. If you are in PDP, you are a pen robber, but if you gate-crashed into APC, you become a saint automatically.‎ Within one and half year, the APC government grounded the economy. Unfortunately, Muhammadu Buhari cannot find solution to hunger, unemployment, depressed economy and insecurity in the country because he is bereft of the ideas. Nigerians should brace up to change the change because the right leader, the right president is yet to come. What we have now is aberration”.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has said that not repaying evil for any evil done him has remained the secret of his continuous victory against all odds put on his way by enemies. Fayose, who turns 56 on Tuesday added that total reliance on God was his power and nothing else. He cited a Biblical injunction to buttress his claims: ” Phillipians Chapter 4 verse 13, says I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me. Jesus Christ is my strength.

God also said those who pay evil with evil, evil will never depart from their house. These messages are warnings to traitors, ” he warned. Speaking about his admirable performance in two years in office, Fayose said he had pact with Ekiti people to transform the state, adding that he had ideas up his sleeve but has been hampered by time and finance.

However, the Governor said: ” I will complete the flyover, King’s Market, Judiciary building, new governor’s office, Ikere – Ado road dualisation and other projects going on at the local governments, ” and urged Ekiti people to continue to support him and ignore the lies of APC about him. Hitting hard at the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) party at the centre, he said:
